Just a short 5 km trip from Heraklion is enough to step into a time capsule.
The world-famous Palace of Knossos, which flourished during the Minoan Era (2000–1350 BC), was the most important center of Minoan civilization. With its labyrinthine architectural layout and vast area of 22,000 sq.m., it revives the legend of the Labyrinth.
Thanks to the reconstructions by Arthur Evans, the excavator of Knossos, you will feel as if you are wandering through the palaces of the Minoan Era. Admire the Throne Room, the Processional Corridor adorned with frescoes—most notably the famous "Prince of the Lilies"—the Hall of the Double Axes, and the Queen’s apartments decorated with the Dolphin fresco. You will also discover the Small Palace of the 15th century BC, the Royal Villa of the 14th century BC, the House of Frescoes, and the Villa of Dionysus.
